## Biography

Rex Tucker (20 February 1913 – 10 August 1996) was a British television director, producer and writer. He joined the BBC in 1937, initially working in radio before moving into television drama in the 1950s. He wrote, produced and directed a number of serials, including the historical drama *Triton* (1961).

In 1963 Tucker served as interim or caretaker producer during the early development of *Doctor Who*, overseeing initial planning and casting sessions before Verity Lambert took over as permanent producer. He was originally assigned to direct the first serial, *An Unearthly Child*, but did not do so; he later directed the 1966 story *The Gunfighters*.

Tucker’s other credits include directing adaptations of classic novels and episodes of series such as *The Wednesday Play*. He was portrayed by Andrew Woodall in the 2013 drama *An Adventure in Space and Time*.
