## Biography

Richard Baer was an American television writer and screenwriter. Born in New York City on 28 April 1928, he graduated from Yale University and the University of Southern California. He began his career in the 1950s, writing for series such as *Leave It to Beaver* and contributing to the film *Life Begins at 17* (1958).

Baer wrote for more than 56 television shows over 25 years, primarily sitcoms. His credits include 38 episodes of *Hennesey* (for which he received an Emmy nomination), 23 of *Bewitched*, 10 of *That Girl*, five of *The Munsters*, and episodes of *M*A*S*H* (1972), *Barney Miller*, *Petticoat Junction* and *Have Gun, Will Travel*. He was also active in the Writers Guild of America.

Baer died in Santa Monica, California, on 22 February 2008.
