## Biography

Richard Baer was an American television writer and screenwriter. Born in New York City on 28 April 1928, he graduated from Yale University and earned a master's degree in cinema from the University of Southern California. He began his career in the 1950s as an assistant on *The Life of Riley* before writing episodes for the series.

Over more than 25 years he contributed scripts to more than 56 television shows, predominantly sitcoms. These included 38 episodes of *Hennesey* (for which he received an Emmy nomination), 23 of *Bewitched*, ten of *That Girl*, five of *The Munsters* and episodes of *Leave It to Beaver*, *F Troop*, *Petticoat Junction*, *The Andy Griffith Show* and *M*A*S*H* (1972). He also wrote the 1958 feature *Life Begins at 17* and the 1972 television film *Playmates*.

Baer later turned to playwriting; his comedy *Mixed Emotions* opened in Los Angeles in 1987 and reached Broadway in 1993. He died in Santa Monica, California, on 22 February 2008.
