## Biography

Richard Balducci was a French screenwriter, director and actor. Born in Paris in 1922, he began his career as a war correspondent and later worked as a press attaché for the Olympia music hall and numerous film directors including Jean-Luc Godard.

He appeared uncredited as Tolmatchoff in Godard's *Breathless* (1960). Balducci originated the characters and story for the *Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez* series starring Louis de Funès, co-writing the first three films: *Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez* (1964), *The Gendarme in New York* (1965) and *The Gendarme Gets Married* (1968). He also directed and wrote several comedies in the 1970s and 1980s, including *Le facteur de Saint-Tropez* (1985).

Balducci died in Créteil in 2015.
