## Biography

Richard Franklin Chew is an American film editor. Born in Los Angeles, he studied at UCLA and briefly attended Harvard Law School before leaving to pursue a career in film. He began with camera and editing work on documentaries, including the Oscar-winning short *The Redwoods* (1967).

Chew transitioned to feature films as co-editor on *The Conversation* (1974) and supervising film editor on *One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest* (1975). He shared the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for his work on *Star Wars* (1977) with Paul Hirsch and Marcia Lucas. His other credits include *Risky Business* (1983), *That Thing You Do!* (1996), *Shanghai Noon* (2000) and *I Am Sam* (2001). He has received BAFTA Awards for *The Conversation* and *One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest*, and the ACE Career Achievement Award in 2022.
