## Biography

Richard Flournoy was an American screenwriter and playwright. He was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, attended Ouachita Baptist University, and served in the First World War. After attempting a singing career, he wrote several plays that reached Broadway in the early 1930s, including the comedy *Fly By Night* and the dramas *Come What May* and *Ladies’ Money*.

Flournoy moved to Los Angeles in 1934 and began writing film scripts, specialising in comedies. He had a long association with Columbia Pictures, contributing screenplays to the *Blondie* series and other films such as *A Night to Remember* (1942). He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for *The More the Merrier* (1943), shared with Lewis R. Foster, Frank Ross and Robert Russell.
