## Biography

Richard Garrick (born Richard Thomas O'Brien) was an Irish-born American actor and director. He made his Broadway debut in 1907 and appeared in numerous stage productions over the following decades, including the original 1947 production of *A Streetcar Named Desire* as the doctor (sometimes billed as the stranger).

Garrick also directed silent films in the 1910s and 1920s, working in the United States and Europe. In the 1950s he resumed a film career with small supporting roles, reprising his stage part in the 1951 film adaptation of *A Streetcar Named Desire*. His other screen credits include *Quo Vadis* (1951), *Viva Zapata!* (1952), *East of Eden* (1955), *High Society* (1956) and *The Three Faces of Eve* (1957).
