## Biography

Richard Hunt (17 August 1951 – 7 January 1992) was an American puppeteer and actor. He joined the Jim Henson Company in 1969 and became one of its principal performers.

On *The Muppet Show* (1976–1981) he performed Scooter, Statler, Janice, Beaker and Sweetums. His film credits include the same characters in *The Muppet Movie* (1979), *The Great Muppet Caper* (1981) and *The Muppets Take Manhattan* (1984). He also appeared in human roles in *Trading Places* (1983) and worked on *Sesame Street* and *Fraggle Rock* (1983–1987).

Hunt died in Manhattan of AIDS-related complications at the age of 40.
