## Biography

Richard L. Bare was an American director, producer and screenwriter of films, television series and short films. Born in Turlock, California, in 1913, he attended the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

He wrote and directed the Joe McDoakes series of comedy short films for Warner Bros. between 1942 and 1956. Bare directed seven episodes of the series *The Twilight Zone* (1959), including "To Serve Man", and nearly every episode of *Green Acres* (1965). His other television credits include episodes of *Maverick* (1957), *Petticoat Junction* (1963) and *Lassie* (1954). He also directed the feature films *Shoot-Out at Medicine Bend* (1957) and *Wicked, Wicked* (1973).

Bare wrote the textbook *The Film Director* (1971) and the memoir *Confessions of a Hollywood Director*.
