## Biography

Richard L. Van Enger (20 June 1914 – 20 March 1984) was an American film and television editor. He began his career as an assistant editor on *Gone with the Wind* (1939) and worked on numerous feature films, primarily for Republic Pictures, including *The Fighting Seabees* (1944), *Wake of the Red Witch* (1948), *The Fighting Kentuckian* (1949), *Sands of Iwo Jima* (1949) and *Johnny Guitar* (1954). He received an Academy Award nomination for best film editing for *Sands of Iwo Jima*.

From the 1950s he also edited for television, contributing to series such as *Bonanza*, *Bat Masterson*, *The High Chaparral* and *Alias Smith and Jones*. He retired in 1976.
