## Biography

Richard Maibaum (1909–1991) was an American screenwriter, producer and playwright. He wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for thirteen Eon Productions James Bond films between 1962 and 1989, beginning with *Dr. No* and ending with *Licence to Kill*. His other Bond credits include *From Russia with Love*, *Goldfinger*, *Thunderball*, *On Her Majesty's Secret Service*, *Diamonds Are Forever*, *The Man with the Golden Gun*, *The Spy Who Loved Me*, *Octopussy*, *For Your Eyes Only*, *A View to a Kill* and *The Living Daylights*.

Born in New York City, Maibaum attended New York University and the University of Iowa. He began as a Broadway actor and playwright in the early 1930s before moving to Hollywood, where he worked as a screenwriter from the late 1930s. After service in the US Army's Combat Film Division during the Second World War, he joined Paramount as a writer and producer. In the 1950s he collaborated with producers Albert R. Broccoli and Irving Allen on several films before returning to the Bond series.
