## Biography

Sir Richard Stilgoe is a British songwriter, lyricist and broadcaster. Born on 28 March 1943 in Camberley, Surrey, he was educated at Liverpool College, Monkton Combe School and Clare College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the Footlights.

He collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the musicals *Cats* (1981) and *Starlight Express* (1984), and co-wrote the book and additional lyrics for *The Phantom of the Opera* with Charles Hart. Stilgoe contributed lyrics to the 2004 film adaptation of *The Phantom of the Opera* and the 2011 Royal Albert Hall concert version. He is also known for his humorous songs and television appearances, including on *That's Life!* and quiz shows.
