Richard Thomas is an American actor. He was born on 13 June 1951 in New York City and made his Broadway debut at the age of seven in *Sunrise at Campobello* (1958). His early film roles include *Winning* (1969) and *Last Summer* (1969).

Thomas is best known for playing John-Boy Walton in the CBS series *The Waltons* (1972–1977). For the role he received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and two Golden Globe Award nominations. Later credits include Bill Denbrough in the miniseries *It* (1990), Walter Gaskell in the film *Wonder Boys* (2000), Frank Gaad in *The Americans* (2013–2016) and Nathan Davis in *Ozark* (2017–2022).
