## Biography

Rick Mittleman was an American television writer and producer. He began his career in the 1950s as a producer on the live audience-request series *You Asked for It* before moving into writing in the early 1960s.

Over five decades he contributed scripts to numerous series, including *Bewitched* (1964), *Get Smart* (1965), *Petticoat Junction* (1963), *M*A*S*H* (1972), *CHiPs* (1977) and *Jake and the Fatman* (1987). He wrote 30 episodes of *Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.* and also worked on *The Dick Van Dyke Show*, *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* and *The Odd Couple*. Mittleman received three Primetime Emmy nominations for his writing, on *The Red Skelton Show* (1963), *Arnie* (1971) and *Van Dyke and Company* (1976). He served on the board of directors of the Writers Guild of America and was awarded its Morgan Cox Award in 1997.
