## Biography

Rik Vollaerts, born Hendrik Vollaerts, was a Dutch-born American screenwriter who worked primarily in television during the 1950s and 1960s. He was born on 6 June 1915 in Wouw, Netherlands, immigrated to the United States as a child, graduated from the University of Chicago, and became a naturalised US citizen in 1940. He died on 15 March 1988 in Mission Viejo, California.

Vollaerts wrote episodes for numerous series, including *Leave It to Beaver* (1957), *Batman* (1966), *Bonanza*, *Rawhide*, *Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea*, *Wagon Train*, *Lawman* and *Highway Patrol*. He contributed the story for the *Star Trek* episode 'For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky', which aired in 1968. He had previously worked with Gene Roddenberry on the 1950s series *Mr. District Attorney*.
