Risto Karhula is a Finnish production designer and screenwriter. He was born on 24 November 1959 in Suomenniemi and has worked as a freelance designer in film, television and theatre since 1983.

Karhula is known for his production design on several Aki Kaurismäki films, including *Ariel* (1988) and *The Match Factory Girl* (1990). His other credits include *The Tough Ones* (1999), *Bad Boys: A True Story* (2003) and *The Match Factory Girl* (1990). He has also designed for numerous television series.

He has twice won the Jussi Award for best production design: in 1992 for *Iskelmäprinssi* and in 1998 for *Sagojogan ministeri* and *Lunastus*. In addition to design work, he has written for television and radio series, including *Tohtori Raimo* from 2015.
