## Biography

Rob Sprackling is a British screenwriter and director. He trained as an actor at the Welsh College of Music and Drama before working as a stand-up comedian on the London circuit in the late 1980s and early 1990s, where he also ran his own comedy club.

In the early 1990s he began screenwriting with his long-term collaborator John R. Smith. Their credits include the comedy feature *Mike Bassett: England Manager* (2001) and its television spin-off, as well as work for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Sprackling conceived and co-wrote the original screenplay for the animated feature *Gnomeo & Juliet* (2011), on which he is also credited for the story. He has since written for several animated features including *The Queen’s Corgi* (2019) and *Panda Bear in Africa* (2024), and contributed to *Sherlock Gnomes* (2018) as the originator of the characters.

He has also directed award-winning short films and worked on projects for studios including Disney, Aardman and Working Title.
