## Biography

Robert Alan Aurthur (10 June 1922 – 20 November 1978) was an American screenwriter, film director and producer. He served as a combat correspondent in the United States Marine Corps during the Second World War. After the war he wrote for early television series including *Studio One* and *Mister Peepers*.

His screen credits include the story and screenplay for *Edge of the City* (1957), the screenplay for *Warlock* (1959), dialogue for *Shadows* (1960), the screenplay for *Grand Prix* (1966) and the screenplay and direction of *The Lost Man* (1969). He was married to actress Bea Arthur from 1947 until their divorce in 1950.

Aurthur co-wrote the screenplay and produced *All That Jazz* (1979) with Bob Fosse. The film was released after his death and earned him two posthumous Academy Award nominations.
