## Biography

Robert Allen (born Irvine E. Theodore Baehr) was an American actor who appeared in feature films and B-movie westerns. Credited variously as Bob Allen and Robert (Tex) Allen, he is known for his role as Frank Randall in *The Awful Truth* (1937).

Born on 28 March 1906 in Mount Vernon, New York, Allen graduated from the New York Military Academy in 1924 and from Dartmouth College in 1929 with a degree in English. He signed with Columbia Pictures in 1935 and starred in a series of westerns billed as Bob Allen, including six Ranger pictures directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet. He later worked in other films and on Broadway, with roles in the original productions of *Show Boat* and *Kiss Them for Me*, and in the 1956 revival of *Auntie Mame*.

Allen died on 9 October 1998 in Oyster Bay, New York.
