## Biography

Robert Ayres (1914–1968) was an American actor who worked mainly in Britain. Born in Michigan, he appeared in films and on television from the 1950s until his death.

He played Major Arthur Peuchen in the 1958 film *A Night to Remember*. Other film roles include General Courts in *The Heroes of Telemark* (1965) and Captain Ben Richards in *First Man into Space* (1959). He also appeared in episodes of *The Saint* (1962–1966). His stage credits include Edward Albee plays at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 1961.

Ayres died of a heart attack in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, on 5 November 1968.
