## Biography

Robert B. Radnitz was an American film producer known for family-oriented dramas adapted from children's literature. His best-known work was the 1972 film *Sounder*, which received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Born in Great Neck, New York, Radnitz graduated from the University of Virginia and began in theatre before producing his first film, *A Dog of Flanders*, in 1960. He went on to produce titles including *Island of the Blue Dolphins* (1964), *My Side of the Mountain* (1969), *Where the Lilies Bloom* (1974) and *Cross Creek* (1983). *Sounder* also earned three further Oscar nominations and several other awards.

Radnitz died in Malibu, California, in 2010.
