## Biography

Robert Burton (born Robert George Burton) was an American film and television actor. Born on 13 August 1895 in Eastman, Georgia, he appeared in over 100 films and television programmes, often in supporting roles as sheriffs, judges or military officers. He is credited as Det. Gus Burke in the 1953 film *The Big Heat*.

Burton also had roles in films including *The Bad and the Beautiful* (1952), *The Tall T* (1957) and *Birdman of Alcatraz* (1962), and television appearances in *The Twilight Zone* (1959) and *Gunsmoke* (1955). He had a recurring role as Dr. Burrage in the series *The Rifleman*. He was married to Marguerite Garrett from 1920 until his death on 29 September 1962 in Woodland Hills, California.
