## Biography

Robert Day, also credited as Robert Frederick Day, was an English film and television director. Born in Sheen, England, he began in the industry as a clapper boy and rose to cinematographer before directing his first feature, the black comedy *The Green Man* (1956).

He directed more than 40 films between 1956 and 1991, including *Two-Way Stretch* (1960), *She* (1965) and several Tarzan films. In the 1960s he relocated to Hollywood and increasingly worked in television, directing episodes of series such as *The Avengers* (1961) and later *Kojak* (1973), *Dallas* (1978), *The Streets of San Francisco* (1972), *Ironside* (1967) and *Matlock* (1986).

His brother was cinematographer Ernest Day. He retired after the 1991 television film *Fire: Trapped on the 37th Floor*.
