## Biography

Robert F. Blumofe was an American film executive and producer. Born in New York City on 23 September 1909, he graduated from Columbia College in 1930 and received a law degree from Columbia Law School. He began his career on the legal staff of Paramount Pictures in New York before moving to Hollywood.

In 1952 he moved into production at Revue Productions and joined United Artists the following year, serving as vice president in charge of production and West Coast operations until 1966. He then worked as an independent producer on films including *Yours, Mine and Ours* (1968) and *Pieces of Dreams* (1970). He produced *Bound for Glory* (1976) with Harold Leventhal; the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. From 1977 to 1981 he directed the American Film Institute’s West Coast operations and served as vice chairman of the Motion Picture & Television Fund. Blumofe died in Los Angeles on 22 July 2003.
