## Biography

Robert Fletcher was an American costume and set designer. He served as costume designer for the first four *Star Trek* feature films: *Star Trek: The Motion Picture* (1979), *Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan* (1982), *Star Trek III: The Search for Spock* (1984) and *Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home* (1986). He also designed costumes for films including *Caveman* (1981), *The Last Starfighter* (1984) and *Fright Night* (1985).

Fletcher had a long career in theatre, ballet and opera, with credits on Broadway productions such as the original *How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying* and *Walking Happy*. He received three Tony Award nominations and a Drama Desk Award nomination. In television he worked as NBC's general designer in the 1950s and received a Primetime Emmy nomination for *North and South: Book II* (1986). He was awarded the Costume Designers Guild Career Achievement Award in 2005 and the Theatre Development Fund/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Fletcher died in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2021.
