## Biography

Robert Hakim (1907–1992) was an Egyptian-born film producer who worked primarily in France. With his brother Raymond Hakim, he co-founded Paris Film Production in 1934 after employment with Paramount. Early credits include Julien Duvivier’s *Pépé le Moko* (1937) and Jean Renoir’s *La Bête Humaine* (1938).

The brothers fled to the United States during the Second World War and co-produced Renoir’s *The Southerner* (1945). They returned to France in the early 1950s and produced further notable films, including *Casque d’Or* (1952), *Purple Noon* (1960), *L’Eclisse* (1962) and *Belle de Jour* (1967), often with directors such as Claude Chabrol, Michelangelo Antonioni and Luis Buñuel.
