Robert Holmes (2 April 1926 – 24 May 1986) was a British television scriptwriter and script editor. After service in the British Army during the Second World War and work as a policeman, he began writing for television in the late 1950s. Early credits included episodes of *Knight Errant Limited*, *Emergency – Ward 10*, *Dr Finlay's Casebook* and *The Saint* (1962).

Holmes wrote multiple serials for *Doctor Who* (1963) from 1968, including *Spearhead from Space* (1970) and *The Caves of Androzani* (1984), and served as its script editor from 1974 to 1977. He contributed to *Blake's 7* (1978) and other series such as *Doomwatch*. He wrote under pseudonyms including William Hood, Stephen Harris and Robin Bland. Holmes died while working on further *Doctor Who* scripts.
