## Biography

Robert Juillard was a French cinematographer. Born on 24 August 1906 in Joinville, Haute-Marne, he trained in photography and entered the film industry in the late 1920s. He worked as an assistant cameraman before becoming a camera operator in 1935 on Julien Duvivier’s *Golgotha*. His career was interrupted by the Second World War; he resumed work after 1945 and advanced to director of photography in the late 1940s.

Juillard served as director of photography on *Forbidden Games* (1952), directed by René Clément, and on films including *Germany, Year Zero* (1948), *The Count of Monte Cristo* (1954), *Gervaise* (1956) and *Austerlitz* (1960). He also worked as camera operator on Henri-Georges Clouzot’s *The Wages of Fear* (1953) and *Diabolique* (1955). His credits extended to television in the 1960s; he appeared in one acting role in 1969. Juillard died on 14 May 1982 in Paris.
