## Biography

Robert Shields (born 26 March 1951) is an American mime artist and actor. Born in Los Angeles, California, he studied mime in Paris and began performing as a street mime in San Francisco's Union Square. He appeared as The Mime in Francis Ford Coppola's film *The Conversation* (1974).

With his then-wife Lorene Yarnell, he formed the mime and comedy duo Shields and Yarnell. They appeared on numerous television programmes in the 1970s, including *The Muppet Show* (1976), and starred in their own CBS variety series *Shields and Yarnell* (1977–1978).

After their divorce in 1986, Shields later established a jewellery design company in Arizona.
