## Biography

Robert Sloman (18 July 1926 – 24 October 2005) was an English writer. Born in Oldham, Lancashire, he studied at the University of Exeter and later worked in the circulation department of the Sunday Times, rising to distribution manager. He co-wrote two West End plays with Laurence Dobie: *The Golden Rivet* and *The Tinker*, the latter adapted as the film *The Wild and the Willing* (1962).

In the early 1970s Sloman wrote four serials for the BBC series *Doctor Who* (1963) during Jon Pertwee's tenure as the Third Doctor, in collaboration with producer Barry Letts. These were *The Dæmons* (1971, credited as Guy Leopold), *The Time Monster* (1972), *The Green Death* (1973) and *Planet of the Spiders* (1974). He also drafted an unproduced serial, *The Daleks in London*.
