## Biography

Robert Swink (also credited as Bob Swink or Robert E. Swink) was an American film editor. He joined RKO Pictures as an editing apprentice in 1936 after graduating from North Hollywood High School, and edited training films for the US Army during the Second World War. His first feature credit came in the late 1940s.

Swink collaborated extensively with director William Wyler on eleven projects, including *Roman Holiday* (1953) and *Funny Girl* (1968). He also worked repeatedly with Franklin J. Schaffner on films such as *Papillon* (1973), *Islands in the Stream* (1977) and *The Boys from Brazil* (1978). Other credits include *The Big Country* (1958), *The Diary of Anne Frank* (1959), *The Children's Hour* (1961), *How to Steal a Million* (1966), *Midway* (1976) and *Rooster Cogburn* (1975). He served as second unit director on several productions.

Swink received Academy Award nominations for Best Film Editing for *Roman Holiday*, *Funny Girl* and *The Boys from Brazil*. He was awarded the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 1993 and retired in 1989. He died in Santa Maria, California, in 2000.
