## Biography

Robert Taylor (born Spangler Arlington Brugh) was an American actor. He made his film debut in *Handy Andy* (1934) and appeared as Bob Gordon in *Broadway Melody of 1936* (1935). He signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and gained leading roles from 1935, including in *Magnificent Obsession* (1935) and *Camille* (1936).

Taylor served as a flight instructor in the United States Naval Air Forces during the Second World War. His later film work included *Waterloo Bridge* (1940), *Quo Vadis* (1951), *Ivanhoe* (1952) and *Knights of the Round Table* (1953). On television he starred in *The Detectives* (1959–1962) and hosted *Death Valley Days* from 1966.

He was married to actress Barbara Stanwyck from 1939 to 1951 and to actress Ursula Thiess from 1954. Taylor died in 1969.
