## Biography

Robert Tronson (18 May 1924 – 27 November 2008) was an English film and television director. Born in Chilmark, Wiltshire, he was educated at Churcher's College and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, and served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. After the war he joined the BBC, where he produced children's programmes, before moving to Associated-Rediffusion in 1955 and later working as a freelance director.

From the late 1950s he directed numerous episodes of popular series, including *The Avengers* (1961), *The Saint*, *Callan*, *Man in a Suitcase*, *The Bill*, *All Creatures Great and Small*, *Bergerac*, *Rumpole of the Bailey* and *The Darling Buds of May*. He also directed several low-budget feature films in the early 1960s, such as *Ring of Spies* (1964). His final credits were episodes of *Hetty Wainthropp Investigates* (1996–1998).

Tronson was married to Nona Richards from 1965 until her death in 1987; they had one son.
