## Biography

Robert Wales was a Scottish writer and playwright. Born and educated in Scotland, he served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War before emigrating to Australia. He worked in manufacturing and as a cattle grazier and gold prospector near Walcha, New South Wales, where he began writing plays and short stories.

Wales returned to Britain in the mid-1960s. His stage plays include *The Hobby Horse* (1962) and *The Cell* (1966), the latter later adapted for television. He wrote for British series including an episode of *The Sweeney* (1976) and *Van der Valk* (1977), and served as script editor on the mini-series *The Search for Alexander the Great* (1981). His novel *Harry* (1985) was adapted into the film *Bullseye* (1987).
