## Biography

Robert Ward is an American novelist, journalist and television writer. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 27 October 1943 and studied English at Towson State University before earning an MFA in creative writing at the University of Arkansas.

Ward began his career as a journalist, contributing to magazines including Rolling Stone, GQ and Esquire, and published several novels, among them Red Baker (1985), which won the PEN West Award for fiction. He wrote the screenplay for the 1981 film adaptation of his novel Cattle Annie and Little Britches.

In television he wrote episodes of Hill Street Blues (1981) from 1985 to 1987, served as co-executive producer and writer on Miami Vice (1984) from 1988 to 1989, and contributed teleplays and stories to NYPD Blue (1993) and New York Undercover.
