## Biography

Roger Bowen (1932–1996) was an American actor and novelist. He is best known for portraying Lt. Col. Henry Blake in Robert Altman's 1970 film *M*A*S*H*. He also appeared in films including *Heaven Can Wait* (1978), *What About Bob?* (1991) and *Zapped!* (1982), and had television roles in series such as *Arnie* (1970–72), *Little House on the Prairie* and *At Ease* (1983).

Bowen co-founded the improvisational comedy troupe that became The Second City in Chicago. He considered himself primarily a writer who acted on the side, and he authored eleven novels as well as sketches for stage and television. He trained at Brown University and the University of Chicago, and served in the US Army.
