He voiced Allan-a-Dale, the rooster narrator and minstrel, in the 1973 Disney animated film *Robin Hood*, and wrote and performed several of its songs, including "Oo-De-Lally" and "Not in Nottingham". His other screen credits include a guest appearance on *The Muppet Show* (1976), a role as Sheriff in *Murder, She Wrote* (1984), and voice work as Speiltoe in *Nestor, the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey* (1977) and Jolly Jumper in *Lucky Luke* (1991). He also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony Award-winning 1985 Broadway musical *Big River*.
