## Biography

Rolan Bykov was a Soviet and Russian actor, film director and screenwriter. He trained at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute and began his career in theatre before moving to Mosfilm, where he worked for four decades.

Bykov appeared in over 100 film roles. He is known for playing the Buffoon in Andrei Tarkovsky's *Andrei Rublev* (1966), Father Fyodor in *The Twelve Chairs* (1977), Basilio the Cat in *The Adventures of Buratino* (1976), and the conductor in *Scarecrow* (1983), which he also directed and co-wrote. He was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1990.
