## Biography

Roland Topor was a French illustrator, cartoonist, painter, novelist, playwright, film and television writer, filmmaker and actor. He wrote the screenplay, in collaboration with director René Laloux, for the animated feature *Fantastic Planet* (1973), based on Stefan Wul’s novel *Oms en série*.

Topor is also known for his novel *The Tenant* (*Le Locataire chimérique*, 1964), which was adapted into a film by Roman Polanski in 1976. He collaborated with Laloux on the earlier short films *The Snails* (1966) and *Les temps morts* (1965). His other screenwriting credits include *The Troubles of Alfred* (1972) and *Marquis* (1989).
