## Biography

Romolo Valli (7 February 1925 – 1 February 1980) was an Italian actor. Born in Reggio Emilia, he trained in law but pursued a career in theatre from the early 1950s. He co-founded the Compagnia dei Giovani in 1954 and appeared in stage productions by classical and contemporary playwrights, later managing the Spoleto Festival until 1978.

Valli worked extensively in film from the late 1950s, collaborating with directors including Luchino Visconti (in *The Leopard* (1963) as Father Pirrone, *Death in Venice* (1971) and *Conversation Piece* (1974)), Vittorio De Sica (*The Garden of the Finzi-Continis* (1970) as padre di Giorgio), Sergio Leone (*Duck, You Sucker* (1971)), and Bernardo Bertolucci (*1900* (1976)). He received three Nastro d'Argento awards for best supporting actor. Valli died in a car accident in Rome.
