## Biography

Rosalind Chao is an American actress. She began performing as a child in a California-based Peking opera company and later trained in Taiwan. After earning a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Southern California, she returned to acting following a period working as a radio newswriter and at Disneyland as an international tour guide.

Chao gained prominence with her role as Soon-Lee Klinger in the final episodes of *M*A*S*H* (1983) and the subsequent series *AfterMASH*. She is also known for recurring appearances as Keiko O'Brien in *Star Trek: The Next Generation* and *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine*, Rose Hsu Jordan in *The Joy Luck Club* (1993), Pei-Pei in *Freaky Friday* (2003), and Hua Li in the live-action *Mulan* (2020). She reprised the character of Pei-Pei, credited as Mama P, in the sequel *Freakier Friday* (2025).

Chao has appeared in numerous television series including *Grey's Anatomy*, *Bones*, *Shameless* and *Castle*, and films such as *What Dreams May Come* (1998) and *I Am Sam* (2001). She is married to actor Simon Templeman.
