## Biography

Roscoe Lee Browne (2 May 1922 – 11 April 2007) was an American actor and director. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey, he studied at Lincoln University, Middlebury College, Columbia University and the University of Florence. He began acting in the mid-1950s after working as a college instructor and winning track titles, making his film debut in The Connection (1961).

Browne was noted for his resonant voice and stage work, including Shakespeare productions and a Tony nomination for Two Trains Running (1992). He appeared in films such as The Cowboys (1972), Topaz (1969) and Logan's Run (1976), and provided voice roles in Oliver & Company (1988), Treasure Planet (2002) and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006). He narrated Babe (1995) and its sequel Babe: Pig in the City (1998). On television he guest-starred in series including The Cosby Show, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1986, and ER.
