## Biography

Roy Barcroft (born Howard Harold Ravenscroft) was an American character actor. He appeared in bit parts from 1937 and became known for villain roles in B-Westerns from 1938 onwards.

In 1943 he signed a ten-year contract with Republic Pictures and appeared in more than 300 films for the studio through the 1950s. He played the marshal in the 1955 film *Oklahoma!* and worked extensively in television Westerns including *Gunsmoke* and *The Andy Griffith Show*.
