## Biography

Royston Tickner (8 September 1922 – 7 July 1997) was a British actor. Born Roy Albert Tickner in Leicester, the son of a tailor, he trained as an actor at Scarborough repertory theatre. He served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and appeared in stage tours, including productions of *The Rotters* and *Rebecca*, before a break from the theatre between 1947 and 1958, when he worked as a lighthouse keeper, miner, fireman and publican.

Tickner resumed acting in 1958. His television credits include roles in *Doctor Who* (as Steinberger P. Green and Robbins), *The Avengers*, *Porridge* (1974) as Sgt. Norris, *Last of the Summer Wine*, *Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em* and *Danger UXB*. Film appearances include uncredited parts in *Becket* (1964), *Goodbye, Mr. Chips* (1969) and *Anne of the Thousand Days* (1969), and Tomescu in *The Keep* (1983).
