## Biography

Rupert Crosse was an American actor. After studying acting under John Cassavetes, he made his film debut in Cassavetes' *Shadows* (1960), playing the character Rupert. He later appeared in Cassavetes' *Too Late Blues* (1961) and became a life member of the Actors Studio.

Crosse appeared in numerous television guest roles during the 1960s, including episodes of *Bonanza*, *The Alfred Hitchcock Hour* and *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.*. His performance as Ned McCaslin in *The Reivers* (1969) earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, making him the first African American nominee in that category. He died on 5 March 1973.
