## Biography

Russ Meyer was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor. He directed, produced and edited *Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!* (1965).

Born Russell Albion Meyer on 21 March 1922 in San Leandro, California, he began making amateur films as a teenager. He served as a combat cameraman in the US Army during the Second World War and later photographed centre-folds for Playboy. His feature directorial debut was the nudie-cutie *The Immoral Mr. Teas* (1959). Meyer became known for a series of low-budget sexploitation films, among them *Vixen!* (1968), *Beyond the Valley of the Dolls* (1970), *Supervixens* (1975) and *Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens* (1979). He died in Los Angeles on 18 September 2004.
