Russell Hopton was an American actor and occasional director. Born in New York City, he appeared in more than 110 films between 1926 and 1945, often in supporting roles as streetwise urban characters. He had a stage background before entering films.

His credits include *Arrowsmith* (1931) as Terry Wickett, *The Miracle Woman* (1931) as Bill Welford, *Blonde Crazy* (1931), *Street Scene* (1931) as Steve Sankey, *I'm No Angel* (1933) as 'Flea' Madigan, *'G' Men* (1935) as Gerard, and *Tall in the Saddle* (1944) as a wagon driver. Hopton also directed *Song of the Trail* (1936) and *Black Gold* (1936). He died in North Hollywood, California.
