## Biography

Russell Nype was an American actor and singer. Born in Zion, Illinois, he studied speech and English at Lake Forest College and served in the US Army during the Second World War. He made his Broadway debut in 1949 and achieved early success opposite Ethel Merman in *Call Me Madam* (1950).

Nype won two Tony Awards for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, for *Call Me Madam* (1951) and *Goldilocks* (1959). His film roles included Dean Thompson in *Love Story* (1970), Richard Montgomery in *Can't Stop the Music* (1980) and Richards in *The Stuff* (1985). Television appearances encompassed *The Cosby Show*, *Murder, She Wrote* and *Fantasy Island*.
