Ruth Gemmell is a British actress. Born in Bristol in October 1967, she trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.

She first starred in the film *Fever Pitch* (1997) and has since appeared in numerous television series. These include *Utopia* (2013–2014) as Jen Dugdale, *Penny Dreadful* (2015) as Octavia Putney, *Home Fires* (2015–2016) and the *Tracy Beaker* franchise as Carly Beaker. She is known for playing Lady Violet Bridgerton in *Bridgerton* (2020–).

Gemmell was married to actor Ray Stevenson from 1997 to 2005.
