## Biography

Ruth Landshoff, also credited as Ruth Landshoff-Yorck and born Ruth Levy, was a German-American actress and writer. She was born on 7 January 1904 in Berlin and died on 19 January 1966 in New York City.

She appeared as Ruth in Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's *Nosferatu* (1922) and had a role in Carl Theodor Dreyer's *Die Gezeichneten* the same year. After training at Max Reinhardt's acting school, she performed on stage in Berlin, Leipzig and Vienna before largely giving up acting. She later appeared in *Die zwölfte Stunde* (1930).

In 1930 she married David Graf Yorck von Wartenburg; the couple divorced in 1937. She emigrated from Germany in 1937, settling in the United States, where she worked as a writer, journalist and translator until her death.
